FryeCare Physicians Network has announced the addition of Dr. William Ward, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, to its team at FryeCare Orthopedics & Neurosurgery in Hickory. Dr. Ward brings expertise in orthopedic oncology, bone and soft tissue tumors, complex and robotic bone and joint reconstruction, including total hips and knees, as well as customized bone and joint replacement. His specialization in orthopedic oncology introduces a new service to the area.

Dr. Ward completed his medical degree and residency in orthopedic surgery at Duke University in Durham, NC. He furthered his training with an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and an orthopedic oncology fellowship at UCLA in California.

“There is tremendous joy in relieving a patient’s pain, saving their limb and/or saving their life,” said Dr. Ward. “I have made a career treating difficult problems, including cancers that involve bones and soft tissues. I strive to provide the best care I can for each patient, fulfilling their needs after an appropriate evaluation of the problem.”

Raised in Lincolnton, NC, Dr. Ward expressed enthusiasm about returning to his roots: “As a former professor of orthopedic surgery and as an author of many scientific publications and book chapters, I have been blessed with opportunities to teach, travel and learn all over the world. I am excited to share these lessons within the communities where I grew up,” he stated. “After all this experience, you might say, I’m coming home!”
