Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC, marked the completion of significant renovations to its Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit on April 15, 2025. This project focused on modernizing patient care facilities on the hospital's sixth floor.

The updated unit now includes four private rooms and eight semi-private rooms, accommodating a total of 20 beds aimed at improving patient care and comfort. The upgrades were unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by hospital representatives, community leaders, government officials, and supporters. Following the ceremony, attendees toured the newly renovated spaces.

Philip Greene, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Frye Regional Medical Center, highlighted the importance of the unit: “Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit plays a critical role in helping patients recover and regain their independence. By providing top-quality rehabilitation services close to home, we continue to fulfill our mission of making communities healthier. This newly renovated space will allow us to offer an even higher level of care and comfort to our patients as they embark on their recovery journey.”

The patient rooms have been redesigned to enhance comfort and mobility, featuring ADA-accessible bathrooms with seated showers, support bars, ample lighting, and spacious layouts. More than 8,000 square feet of new flooring, upgraded countertops, cabinetry, fresh paint, and an expanded nurse’s station were part of the renovations. To boost the rehabilitation process, the unit includes:

- Activities of Daily Living areas with a bathroom, kitchen, and washer/dryer for patients to practice essential life skills.

- A state-of-the-art therapy gym, equipped to help patients regain strength and skills as they transition from hospital to home.

Philip Greene emphasized the hospital's commitment to patient care and creating healthier communities, underscoring the project's alignment with these goals.
