City of Morganton issued the following announcement on Jul. 24.
Who's ready for the 2021 Morganton Festival Weekends?! We know we are! Beginning August 27, enjoy three weekends of TGIF Concerts, Craft Vendors, and Festival Food Fare in the heart of Downtown Morganton, North Carolina. The festival weekends may be smaller in scale, but they’re packed with new and exciting features. A different experience awaits you each weekend! This year's design utilizes the community mandala created in 2019 when Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery visited Morganton. During this visit, the community mandala design was created for the community to complete while the monks completed their own mandala, before the sand from both were ceremoniously released into the Catawba River upon their completion.
Each part of the design of the community mandala represents something relevant to our community. More information on each part of the design is included in the photos below. This community mandala design, created by City of Morganton Project Designer Michael Berley, will be installed as an art installation on the grounds of the newly-renovated Courthouse Square in Downtown Morganton.
