A Conforming Amends and Land Use Changes bill was sent to Gov. Roy Cooper in June for his signature, which would preserve legislation passed last year to allow the North Carolina Home Builders Associations to implement changes to local land planning and laws, the North Carolina Home Builders Association said in a recent news release.
The bill passed in 2019 contains land-use changes and calls for consolidating and modernizing the planning, zoning and land-use section of the North Carolina Bar Association, according to the organization's release.
The NCHBA is asking for the governor to sign off on preserving this legislation because, "some local governments would like to immediately implement Chapter 160D, the bill provides that it becomes effective upon enactment. However, those local governments who would like more time to amend or enact local ordinance are given until 07/01/21 to do so," the association said in the press release. "In addition, your legislative team worked to prepare language for a committee substitute for another of NCHBA’s session priorities. This bill is scheduled to be considered in a Senate committee on Wednesday. More about this in next week’s NCHBA Legislative Report."
