FOIA Request to Catawba County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
On February 5, 2025, we at Hickory Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. We asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election in an electronic format.
The information requested includes the first, middle and last names of the candidates. Additionally, we asked for details about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.
Furthermore, we sought contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number and email address. This request is part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.
We look forward to receiving this information from the Catawba County Election Department as it will greatly aid our mission of providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
