The Avery County Health Department offered COVID-19 testing through a drive-thru this week, according to reports, with results expected in the coming days.
“Anyone is eligible to be tested,” Deb Gragg, public health nursing supervisor II with Avery County Health Department, told the Avery Journal. “We are breaking it down by part-time and full-time residents on our forms for statistics. No one will be turned down due to [the] inability to pay.”
The department used the nasal cavity swab test on Thursday, according to Gragg. Individuals had to remain in their vehicles while a nurse took a nasal swab. Results will be given by phone a few days after being tested, according to the Avery Journal.
“We plan to see how this turns out, and then we will plan more if it is wanted,” Gragg told the Avery Journal. “We also plan to do the serological test that tests for antibodies to COVID-19 when it becomes available.”
