A North Carolina state representative reminded eligible families about a state grant to help cover educational costs because of COVID-19.
Known as the N.C. Extra Credit Grant, the General Assembly's legislation that the governor signed, provides families with a school-aged child who was at most 16 years old during the 2019 tax year can receive $335.
"This program would provide families with a one-time payment of $335 to help offset childcare costs while schools are closed," Rep. Destin Hall (R-Caldwell) said in a September Facebook post.
Most eligible parents will receive the funding automatically, however, those who did not have to file taxes have until Thursday, Oct. 15 to apply, according to guidelines posted on the Department of Revenue website.
Those who were not a North Carolina resident for all of 2019 are not eligible.
The Republican lawmaker said that his office is ready to help individuals with the application process.
