Rep. Jay Adams (R-Catawba) has spoken in opposition to North Carolina Democrats' recent decision to support a national campaign that advocates for defunding the police.
"My opponent, Kim Bost denies signing a pledge specifically calling for defunding the police," Adams said in a Facebook post on Sept. 18. "OK, but she did sign a pledge to support the Future Now Fund. She also has expressed support for the Black Lives Matters organization. BLM is the source for the demand to defund law enforcement. This can be put to rest if Kim Bost is indeed opposed to defunding law enforcement. Kim make a pledge to the people of North Carolina that she will oppose efforts to defund law enforcement rather than an organization that funds left-leaning politicians."
Nearly 90 elected North Carolina officials and candidates pledged to model legislation after seven policy goals proposed by the advocacy group Future Now. One of the group's model legislation is to reallocate funds from law enforcement and direct them to community-based programs. The legislative plan seeks to invest in youth programs, mental health services, housing, jobs, training and small businesses, The Center Square reported in September.
