The North Carolina Republican Party released a statement Nov. 13 regarding the opening impeachment hearings against President Trump regarding his alleged refrain of military funds to Ukraine.

North Carolina GOP chairman Michael Whatley claims the hearings are an “abuse of power.” The statement was released on the party’s Facebook page

“The impeachment hearing today is a brazen partisan abuse of power by House Democrats,” he said. “The Republicans do not get to bring forward a single witness.”

In the statement, Whatley calls out the alleged whistleblower's name and says that the alleged whistleblower will not be called to testify. During proceedings on earlier this month, Democrats said they have no issue allowing the alleged whistleblower to testify in a future hearing.

Whatley claims the hearing isn’t about Ukraine, but about party lines.

“It is not about a phone call,” he said. “It is about House Democrats desperately trying to overturn the 2016 election cycle.”
