Town of Ayden issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.

An employee in this class plans, organizes and directs the work of employees engaged in a wide variety of municipal operations and services including engineering services; planning and building inspections; water and sewer line construction and maintenance; water treatment; street maintenance and repair; building maintenance and repair; power distribution; sanitation services; and the garage. 

The employee provides technical advice and assistance including some engineering design work to the Town Manager and the Council on the improvement of utilities, streets, and other infrastructure; and ensures that modern, safe, effective and efficient practices are utilized by municipal work crews. Work also includes contract management, handling citizen issues, and budget and personnel administration of the department. 

The employee represents the Town to a wide variety of citizens, developers, and other external contacts. Work is coordinated with the Town Manager and other town officials. The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments, in extreme temperatures, and in emergency situations.

 This position is considered a safety sensitive role.
