WASHINGTON — Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, expressed his satisfaction after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act on March 13, 2024.
"From sharing Americans’ data with the CCP to its impact on our nation’s children, TikTok poses a grave risk to our national security,” said Congressman McHenry. He also noted, “Its actions in response to Congress considering this legislation make that even more clear." McHenry emphasized that “This targeted approach is the right way to combat the malign influence of the CCP without sacrificing core American values."
Highlighting the interconnectedness of divestment and investment, McHenry stated, “It’s important to note that divestment and investment are two sides of the same coin." He further pointed out that “Today, the House overwhelmingly voted to facilitate the largest ever outbound investment involving China—the exact type of transaction some so-called ‘hawks’ want to restrict."
In conclusion, Congressman McHenry expressed his pride in supporting the bill, stating, “I was proud to support this commonsense bill to protect Americans’ data and our national security from the CCP."
