Tenth District Congressman Patrick McHenry's office will be welcoming United States Naval Academy Second-Class Midshipman Will Dettmer for an information session on Monday, November 20th. The session will take place from 4:30 - 5:30 PM at Congressman McHenry's District Office in Hickory, located at 1990 Main Ave SE.
Midshipman Dettmer, who is currently a Midshipman Second-Class at the United States Naval Academy, will be available to meet with students and parents who are interested in learning more about service academies. He will share his experiences and answer any questions they may have. Nancy Meek, Congressman McHenry's Senior District Representative, will also be present to answer any questions about the nominations process through the Congressman's office.

Midshipman Will Dettmer graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in 2021 and began his journey at the Naval Academy in July of that same year. Currently majoring in Operations Research, Midshipman Dettmer is set to graduate in May of 2025 with the goal of becoming a Naval Aviator.
Throughout his time at the Naval Academy, Midshipman Dettmer has had the opportunity to participate in Summer Training programs that have taken him across the world, from New York City to Japan. He also has plans to study abroad next semester in the Czech Republic. His dedication to his studies has earned him a place on the Superintendent's list, Dean's list, and Commandant's list for multiple semesters in a row. Additionally, Midshipman Dettmer has achieved success in athletics, winning a Club National Championship as a member of the Men's Club Lacrosse team.
This information session provides a valuable opportunity for students and parents to gain insight into the experiences and opportunities available at the United States Naval Academy. Midshipman Will Dettmer's presence and firsthand experiences will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for those considering a future in the military.
