The latest movie from filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, titled "Police State," is set to be shown at a Hickory movie theater on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25.
D’Souza expressed surprise at the timing of the movie, stating, "I honestly wouldn't have believed, prior to the 2020 election and prior to Biden coming to office, that I’d be making this movie. Which really shows that we have seen a speedy introduction of the police state on many different levels."
The film explores what D’Souza refers to as "police state" activities by the government, ranging from the "Patriot Act" after 9/11 to more recent instances such as COVID lockdowns, social media censorship, the prosecution of concerned parents at school board meetings, and the surveillance and detention of Americans who were in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021.
In addition to D’Souza, the movie features actor Nick Searcy and interviews with U.S. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R), radio host Dan Bongino, and several government whistleblowers.
The film's trailer has garnered 74 million views on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) as of publication time.
The movie will be screened at AMC Hickory 15, located at 2000 Catawba Valley Blvd. SE, on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. For those unable to attend the Hickory screenings, the movie's website lists additional viewings in Asheville, Concord, Greenville, and other communities.
