City of Hickory issued the following announcement on Mar. 3.
City Walk contractors will remove the wooden arches debris from the Rudy Wright Bridge and Main Avenue Bridge this weekend. Clearing the debris will require the closing of N.C. 127.
N.C. 127 will be closed between 1st Ave SE and 1st Ave NE from Friday, March 4, at 6 p.m. through 6 a.m. Monday, March 7. Detour routes will be established and clearly marked. Drivers should use 4th St NW/SW and the one-way pairs to navigate around the N.C. 127 closure.
Once the arches are removed, both the Main Ave NE bridge and the pedestrian bridge will be inspected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). After cleared by inspection, the Main Ave NE bridge will be opened to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The pedestrian bridge will remain closed until all necessary repairs are completed.
Drivers are asked to follow all signage and flagmen. For the public’s safety, a construction perimeter will be established. The public is asked to please stay behind all caution tape areas.
