Media briefings will be released once a week on Fridays unless a significant spike between days has taken place or a death has occurred.
The increase in our case count is coming from several different sources. As summer is in full swing, kids are attending camps this year, families are vacationing and restrictions are slowly being lifted. The increase is to be expected, but the one thing that can help combat this is getting vaccinated.
On July 30th, 2021, Executive Order 215 will expire. This lifts all mandatory capacity and gathering limits, lifts all social distancing requirements, and lifts the mask mandate requirement for most indoor and outdoor settings, excluding public transportation, child care, schools, prisons, and certain public health settings.
With these restrictions lifted, we are asking the public for your continued cooperation to help keep our case and hospitalization count as low as possible. If you are not feeling well, stay home. If you are not vaccinated, we recommend that you continue wearing your mask. If you are vaccinated and would like to take extra precautions in areas with the potential of high transmission, wear a mask.
We are encouraging anyone 12 and over to take the COVID vaccine to help reduce the spread of the COVID virus within our community as we move forward. If you are interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccination, you can go to www.myspot.nc.gov and find locations within Burke and surrounding counties to schedule your appointment.
If you have trouble with scheduling or you do not have access to a computer, please contact the Burke County Health Department at 828-764-9150 and dial “0” to speak with the operator and they can assist you .To find out more information about how to schedule your vaccine appointment, please visit the Burke County COVID-19 webpage at www.burkenc.org/COVID-19
