City of Morganton issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.
The Morganton Department of Public Safety was recently recognized during the September Morganton City Council Meeting for successfully completing the North Carolina League of Municipalities risk review process.
NCLM Public Safety Risk Management Consultant Matthew Selves presented a plaque commemorating the accomplishment to MDPS Chief Tony Lowdermilk during the council meeting. The risk review process developed by NCLM analyzes whether or not a law enforcement agency adheres to recognized industry standards proven to reduce risks in daily operations.
The risk review initiative was developed with the assistance of NCLM’s Police Chiefs Advisory Committee, and is supported by the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police. NCLM’s Risk Review process is a voluntary program for police agencies to participate in.
“I quickly found that Chief Lowdermilk and departmental staff prioritize the importance of meeting best practices, and are an example of professionalism and excellence in reducing risks for the agency and its officers,” Selves said. “I observed some very committed officers in my time spent in Morganton.”
The Law Enforcement Risk Review Process is designed to assess an agency’s adherence to best practices, court decisions, and policies and procedures related to high liability activities in law enforcement. The goal of successful completion is enhanced public safety, and validating that critical areas of the department are meeting widely-accepted industry standards.
The North Carolina League of Municipalities is a membership association of 540 municipalities, representing nearly every municipality in the state. The mission of NCLM is to enhance the quality of life in municipalities by promoting excellence in municipal governance.
