Burke County issued the following announcement on July 30.

Burke County Reports Twenty-seventh Death

Morganton, NC: Burke County Public Health was notified late yesterday of the twenty-seventh COVID-19 associated death in Burke County. The individual in their 80’s was hospitalized and died from underlying medical conditions. To protect the family’s privacy, no further information about the patients will be released.

“We are sincerely sorry for the family and friends mourning the loss of this individual”, said Burke County Health Director Rebecca McLeod. These deaths continue to be a stark reminder that we all have to work together to protect the health and well-being of all residents within our county. There is a couple ways that we can keep our older and more vulnerable populations safer is to continue to practice the 3 W’s to reduce the spread of this infection and to stay away from others when you are sick.” Wear, a cloth face covering when out in public and cannot physically distance yourself from others, Wait at least six feet away from others and Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer if you do not have access to soap and water. If you test positive for COVID-19 please STAY AT HOME until your isolation time has been completed or if you are sick to STAY AT HOME until you are symptom free.
