Rep. Destin Hall (R-Lenoir) was one of the guest speakers at an event celebrating the opening of a new hospital, which he helped make possible.
Lawmakers, executives and others celebrated the partial opening of the Jonas Hill Hospital & Clinic at Caldwell UNC Health Care. The facility is a 27-bed in-patient psychiatric center that will also have a clinic that is opening in 2021.
The lawmaker said in a July 22 his Facebook post that getting the funding to help the hospital is one of the "accomplishments I’m most thankful for during my time serving Caldwell County in the General Assembly."
At the grand opening, Hill said he was eager to help with the project because of his work in the court system.
“I know that often folks who suffer from mental health issues don’t wind up in a hospital or a doctor’s office; they wind up in the county jail,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook.
