Congressman Pat Harrigan has announced Roshan Naik, a student at Pine Lake Preparatory in Mooresville and resident of Iredell County, as the winner of North Carolina’s 10th District Congressional App Challenge.
Naik’s app, Nation Vitals, is an interactive dashboard designed to help users understand trends related to drug overdose deaths, suicide, mental health, and how these issues intersect with infrastructure, crime, politics, and demographics at the county level. The application aims to provide communities and decision-makers with clearer insights into everyday challenges.
“Roshan took on some of the hardest challenges facing our country and built a tool that helps people understand them at the local level,” said Congressman Harrigan. “Nation Vitals shows what’s possible when curiosity, technical skill, and a desire to make a difference come together. I’m incredibly proud to recognize his work and the talent coming out of our district.”
The Congressional App Challenge is a national competition encouraging middle and high school students to engage in coding by creating original applications. Winners from each congressional district are recognized by their respective Members of Congress. Selected apps may be displayed in the U.S. Capitol as part of an official showcase.
In 2024, Pat Harrigan won the general election for North Carolina’s 10th District against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., securing 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
