Congressman Pat Harrigan, who won the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., posted a series of statements on social media criticizing academic and political figures and highlighting legislative developments.
On October 3, 2025, Harrigan commented on the resignation of Michael Mann from the University of Pennsylvania: “Michael Mann built his career on junk science and partisan hate. His resignation from Penn is long overdue—and proof that universities can’t keep covering for activists who masquerade as scholars.”
Later that same day, he addressed North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein’s handling of Iryna’s Law: “NINE DAYS. Nine days Josh Stein has let Iryna’s Law collect dust while families are left exposed to the same violent criminals this bill would keep behind bars. Nine days of silence. Nine days of excuses. Nine days where victims mattered less to him than politics. Iryna’s Law” (October 3, 2025).
By the evening, Harrigan announced progress regarding the legislation: “.@GovJoshStein dragged his feet for nine days, but Iryna’s Law is finally signed. This law protects families from violent repeat offenders and shuts the revolving door that’s put criminals back on our streets. North Carolinians demanded action, and today, they won!” (October 3, 2025).
Harrigan currently serves in Congress after securing victory in 2024 with 57.5% of the vote against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., according to official election results.
