Congressman Pat Harrigan, who won the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., recently posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing domestic safety, immigration, and international energy policy.
On August 19, 2025, Harrigan commented on public safety in Washington D.C., stating: “These numbers prove that real leadership delivers order over chaos and safety over excuses. D.C. will only stay safe if failed progressive policies are finally repealed.”
Later that day, he addressed national trust and immigration with the message: “Break America’s trust, and you lose America’s welcome.” This statement did not specify particular policies or incidents but emphasized a stance linking trust to national hospitality.
In a third post concerning European relations with Russia amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Harrigan wrote: “European leaders condemn Putin’s invasion, yet still poured €21.9 billion into his war chest through oil and gas last year. If they truly want the war to end, they need to stop fueling it themselves.”
Harrigan was elected to Congress after defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr. in 2024 by securing 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%. His recent posts continue a pattern of commentary on both domestic policy—particularly public safety—and foreign affairs.
The issue of energy imports from Russia has been a point of contention among Western nations since the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine in early 2022. European Union member states have faced criticism for continuing to purchase Russian oil and gas despite condemning military actions by President Vladimir Putin.
