Congressman Pat Harrigan, who won the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr. with 57.5% of the vote, has used his social media platform to comment on recent national and local issues, including the ongoing government shutdown and rising crime rates.
On November 4, 2025, Harrigan posted about the federal government shutdown: “Breaking records is supposed to mean progress, but this one’s a national embarrassment.
Tonight, Democrats will make this the longest shutdown in American history. They’ve burned through $10 billion of taxpayer money, left thousands of families without paychecks, and let”.
The following day, November 5, he addressed changes in Washington D.C.’s crime statistics: “DC’s murder rate has dropped over 60% because @POTUS restored federal authority and removed political interference from law enforcement.
When the law is enforced evenly and decisively, stability follows.”
Later that same day, Harrigan highlighted concerns about public safety in Charlotte: “Public safety is government’s most basic duty, and Charlotte is in crisis.
With 8 homicides in 7 days and murders up 200%, I’ve joined @RepMarkHarrisNC and @RepChuckEdwards in urging @NC_Governor to deploy the National Guard.
Our families deserve security, and our city”.
Harrigan was elected to Congress after defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., receiving a significant majority of votes according to official results from 2024 (233 votes for Harrigan or 57.5%, compared to Scott’s 155 votes or 38.2%).
