Congressman Pat Harrigan has used his social media platform to comment on ongoing political and public safety issues, focusing on the federal government shutdown and recent crime incidents in Charlotte.
On October 20, 2025, Harrigan addressed the continuing government shutdown, writing, “Day 20 of the Democrat shutdown, and it’s all politics over people. Republicans passed a clean bill to keep the government open. Democrats have blocked it 11 times while demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending, including healthcare for illegal immigrants and cuts to rural”.
Later that day, Harrigan drew attention to youth crime in Charlotte. He posted, “A 15-year-old in Charlotte has been arrested 111 times in two years and is still walking free. Police say he’s linked to more than 50 stolen cars, multiple break-ins, and even searched ‘what is the charge for killing an officer.’ If that doesn’t make you furious at how broken”.
In a subsequent post on October 20, he commented on violent crime rates: “Four people murdered in Charlotte in 24 hours. This violence is completely avoidable and the result of soft-on-crime policies that have empowered criminals, put families in danger, and left law enforcement fighting to keep up.”
Pat Harrigan was elected to Congress after defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr. in the 2024 general election with 57.5% of the vote.
