Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents North Carolina and won his seat in 2024 by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently used social media to express concerns about public safety and transportation security in Charlotte.

On September 30, 2025, Harrigan posted a message referencing a violent incident involving children on a Charlotte street. He wrote, “What has our country come to? Kids walking down a Charlotte street, picking a house at random, and opening fire. Families can’t even sit in their own living rooms without wondering if tonight will be the night bullets tear through their walls. This is the result of a justice” (September 30, 2025).

Later that evening, Harrigan commented on an audit report by the North Carolina State Auditor related to transit security and contracting practices. In his post he stated, “You’ve got to be kidding me…@NCAuditorBoliek just laid out exactly why Iryna Zarutska is dead. Armed security on CATS trains was slashed from 90 officers to 54, leaving riders defenseless on a system already plagued by violence. “Inclusion” quotas in contracting were” (September 30, 2025).

He also encouraged followers to tune into an event or broadcast at midnight Eastern Time with the message: ” Tune in at 12AM ET!” (September 30, 2025).

Pat Harrigan secured his congressional seat after winning the general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., receiving approximately 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
