Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents North Carolina and won his seat in 2024 by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently used social media to address a range of policy issues, including foreign property ownership, local law enforcement practices, and government shutdowns.

On March 31, 2026, Harrigan stated his motivation for legislative action regarding international real estate transactions: “One sided deals that benefit everyone but America are exactly why I came to Congress, so I introduced legislation to fix one of the most glaring ones. If your country will not let Americans freely buy land and property, your citizens do not get to freely buy ours.”

Later that day, he commented on a criminal case in Charlotte and criticized local policies: “How is this even a debate? A man accused of two murders is sitting in a Charlotte jail and local politicians are more concerned with protecting their sanctuary status than making sure he never sets foot in our communities again.” This post referenced ongoing debates about sanctuary city policies.

In the evening of March 31, Harrigan reflected on his previous statements during a government shutdown: “I joined @TMZ during the shutdown last fall and what I told them then is exactly how I feel right now. Nobody wins when the government shuts down, the American people always lose, and Congress needs to stop arguing about whose fault it is and end it.”

Harrigan’s recent posts follow his successful campaign against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., where he secured victory with 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
