Congressman Pat Harrigan has taken to social media to express concern over recent events involving political violence and university staff conduct, following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
On September 12, 2025, Harrigan wrote, “The truth is simple: a country that treats speech as violence will eventually treat violence as speech. That is where we are.”
Later that day, he addressed reports related to Wake Forest University staff, stating on September 12, 2025: “I’ve contacted @WakeForest regarding these reports. If a staff member is openly celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk, it crosses every line of decency and professionalism. No university should tolerate an employee glorifying political violence. Anything less than”
On September 13, 2025, Harrigan also commented on remarks made by Erika Kirk after her husband’s death: “.@MrsErikaKirk’s words tonight were powerful beyond measure. In the midst of unimaginable grief, she showed the courage and conviction that defined Charlie’s life. My heart breaks for her and for their children, and they will remain in my prayers. But more than that, I will”
Pat Harrigan was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., securing approximately 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
