Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents his district after winning the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing recent events at the U.S. Naval Academy and the aftermath of a high-profile murder case.
On September 11, 2025, Harrigan expressed his condolences regarding an incident involving midshipmen at the Naval Academy: “Heartbreaking. Praying for our midshipmen, their families, and everyone at the Naval Academy tonight.”
The following day, September 12, 2025, he commented on public reactions to the murder of an individual named Charlie. Harrigan wrote: “At first I wanted to believe the vile posts celebrating Charlie’s murder were just deranged extremists hiding behind anonymous accounts. But the sheer number shows something deeper. These aren’t just faceless trolls. They’re teachers, neighbors, people in our own communities.”
Later that morning, Harrigan publicly thanked law enforcement and Utah officials for their work on the case: “I’m grateful to Utah law enforcement, @FBIDirectorKash, the @FBI, and everyone who worked tirelessly to bring this case to a breakthrough.
But I want to especially thank @GovCox. He handled this horrific situation with compassion, strength, and professionalism. In a dark moment,”
Harrigan’s remarks come in light of his recent electoral victory in 2024 over Ralph R. Scott, Jr., where he secured 57.5% of votes compared to Scott’s 38.2%. This win established him as a prominent figure within his district.
