Oakwood Elementary won first place at the Hickory City Schools Elementary Battle of the Books competition held on March 9 at Grandview Middle School.
The event brought together teams from Longview Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, Viewmont Elementary, and W. M. Jenkins Elementary after months of preparation. Each team read and studied 16 books ahead of the contest, showing a strong commitment to literacy and teamwork.
As district champion, Oakwood Elementary will move on to represent Hickory City Schools at the Regional Battle of the Books Competition for Region 7 on Friday, March 27, at Challenger High School.
“We are incredibly proud of Oakwood Elementary for this outstanding achievement,” said Dr. Jennifer Griffin, Superintendent of Hickory City Schools. “The dedication these students have shown by reading 16 books and preparing for competition speaks volumes about their commitment to learning. We also celebrate every team, coach, and district leaders who made this event such a success.”
Hickory City Schools congratulated Oakwood Elementary and recognized all participating students and coaches for their hard work and sportsmanship.
