Northview Middle School won first place at the Catawba Book Bash Middle School Battle of the Books competition on March 10, finishing ahead of seven other teams after ten rounds at the Newton-Conover City Schools Central Office in Newton, North Carolina.

The event brought together middle school teams from Catawba County Schools, Hickory City Schools, and Newton-Conover City Schools. The competition highlights literacy and teamwork among students in the region.

To prepare for the contest, Northview students read and studied twenty books. Their efforts were demonstrated through strong comprehension skills, quick recall, and collaboration during the event. As a result of their performance, Northview earned the county championship title and will represent Hickory City Schools at the Regional Battle of the Books competition on March 19 at Corinth Reformed Church.

“This achievement reflects the perseverance and academic focus of our students,” said Dr. Jennifer Griffin, Superintendent of Hickory City Schools. “Reading 20 books and competing through 10 rounds against talented teams from across all districts in the county is an incredible accomplishment. We are proud of the way they represented Hickory City Schools and look forward to cheering them on at regionals.”

Hickory City Schools congratulated the Northview team and their coaches for their preparation, commitment, and outstanding accomplishment.
