Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District, announced that his Hickory District Office is seeking to hire a veteran or Gold Star Family member through the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program.

The selected candidate will focus on veterans-related casework and serve as a liaison between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.

“Our nation owes an unbreakable debt to those who wear the uniform and to the families who bear the cost of that service,” said Congressman Harrigan. “As a combat veteran myself, I know firsthand the challenges of transition and the sacrifices Gold Star Families carry every day. This program is about turning that service into continued leadership—helping veterans and families across Western North Carolina get the care and support they deserve.”

The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for veterans and Gold Star Families within congressional offices.

Applicants must meet certain criteria. Veterans are required to have been honorably discharged within the last six years and must have served at or below specified pay grades. Some exceptions apply for recent promotions before separation. Those with 20-year retirements or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) are not eligible.

Gold Star applicants must be immediate family members—such as spouse, parent, sibling, child, or step-child—of a service member who died in the line of duty or from a service-connected disability within four years of separation.

Those interested in applying can find more information by searching for “Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program” on www.usajobs.gov.

In 2024, Pat Harrigan won election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., securing 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
