Frye Regional Medical Center, affiliated with Duke Health, is working to raise awareness about advanced heart procedures through educational sessions with local organizations. The most recent event included the Watauga County Rescue Squad and Watauga Emergency Services, focusing on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). This procedure offers a minimally invasive option for patients with severe aortic stenosis and can result in faster recovery times and fewer complications compared to traditional open-heart surgery.
The Frye Regional Heart Center is one of the few centers in its region providing TAVR. The hospital’s partnership with Duke Health allows it to bring nationally recognized cardiovascular expertise to Catawba County and neighboring areas. Through this collaboration, care providers at Frye Regional receive ongoing education from specialists at Duke Heart Center on current clinical practice guidelines.
Philip Greene, MD, CEO of Frye Regional Medical Center, stated: “At Frye Regional, we are committed to cardiac excellence and compassionate care for our community. We are grateful for our partnerships in Watauga County and for their dedication to education and excellence in care.”
In addition to TAVR, the center provides other advanced cardiac treatments such as mitral and tricuspid valve repair as well as surgical aortic valve replacement. By working together with partners like Watauga County Rescue Squad and EMS, Frye Regional aims to improve access to quality cardiovascular services throughout western North Carolina.
