Frye Regional Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025, marking the eleventh consecutive year the hospital has been recognized. The award is given to hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based care for heart attack patients and consistently meet treatment goals set by clinical guidelines from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
Frye Regional is one of 27 hospitals in North Carolina and 323 nationwide to earn this distinction. The award reflects sustained achievement in the Chest Pain – MI Registry over two years, specifically in 2023 and 2024, as well as meeting high performance measures. Participation in this registry involves a quality improvement process that uses data to enhance adherence to clinical guidelines and improve overall patient care for those experiencing heart attacks.
“It is an honor to award Frye Regional Medical Center with the Platinum Performance Award for their valuable national leadership and dedication to meeting comprehensive performance measures in patient care,” said Michael C. Kontos, MD, FACC, chair of the NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Steering Subcommittee, and cardiologist at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. “The receipt of this award indicates that Frye Regional remains committed to providing top quality, guideline-driven care for heart attack patients. Their success ensures patients are receiving the highest quality cardiovascular care.”
The hospital’s recognition comes alongside other achievements in cardiovascular services, such as The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Heart Failure Accreditation, Primary Stroke Center Certification, ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI, and ACC Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI. Frye Regional was also named High Performing in Pacemaker Implantation by U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals edition.
“This accreditation from the ACC validates the unwavering dedication of our entire team,” said Philip Greene, MD, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “It reaffirms our commitment to delivering the highest standards of cardiovascular care to our patients.”
Nationally, more than 800,000 people experience a heart attack each year according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Treatment recommendations include prompt administration of aspirin on arrival and discharge, restoring blood flow quickly to blocked arteries, counseling about quitting smoking, and cardiac rehabilitation.
The Chest Pain – MI Registry helps health care teams provide standardized treatment based on current scientific guidelines and sets a benchmark for improving outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease.
