A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Alexander County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request was made by Hickory Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request sought records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically for the pre-election test reports of election voting machines in PDF format. The requested fields in the report included the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status indicating whether it passed or failed.

As part of our commitment to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we at Hickory Sun believe that access to such public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Alexander County Election Department and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local government affairs.
