FEMA assistance deadline approaches for North Carolinians affected by Tropical Storm Helene

North Carolina residents affected by Tropical Storm Helene have one week left to apply for financial assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The deadline for applications is April 7, 2025.

FEMA offers support for those with uninsured damage or losses, including help with temporary lodging, essential home repairs, personal property loss, and other needs caused by the disaster. Both homeowners and renters in the following counties are eligible: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Forsyth, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Nash, Polk, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Union Watauga Wilkes Yadkin and Yancey counties. Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians can also apply.

Residents can submit an application online at DisasterAssistance.gov or use the FEMA App. They may also call 800-621-3362. Those using relay services such as Video Relay Service (VRS) or captioned telephone should provide FEMA with their specific service number. In some areas local Resource Centers are available where FEMA specialists assist with applications.
