Congressman Pat Harrigan, who won the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently posted several statements on social media addressing criminal justice, immigration, and drug trafficking.
On September 6, 2025, Harrigan criticized local authorities in Durham for their approach to Fourth Amendment protections. In his post he stated: “Hey Durham, looks like you’ve been taking cues from @yassaminansari in Arizona. The Fourth Amendment was written for CITIZENS, yet you twist it into a shield for illegal immigrants who broke into our country. When you hand out those protections, you betray the people you serve”.
Two days later, on September 8, 2025, Harrigan addressed issues with repeat offenders and law enforcement policies. He wrote: “.@POTUS is right: there are evil people. But what’s even worse is a justice system that refuses to deal with them. The man who killed Iryna Zarutska had 14 arrests and multiple felonies but was still turned loose. She should have been protected. Instead, soft-on-crime policies”.
Later that same day, Harrigan commented on federal efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking: “For years, fentanyl traffickers operated with impunity. Now the @FBI and @TheJusticeDept are making it clear: poison Americans, and your entire network—from Chinese labs to cartel boats—will be destroyed.”
Harrigan’s recent posts reflect ongoing debates about the scope of constitutional protections for non-citizens and concerns about criminal justice reform in the United States. His remarks also highlight federal initiatives targeting international drug networks responsible for fentanyl distribution.
In the previous year’s general election, Harrigan secured his congressional seat by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., receiving 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
