Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents North Carolina and won his seat in 2024 by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing government operations, public safety in Washington, D.C., and bipartisan agreement in Congress.

On February 3, 2026, Harrigan commented on the reopening of the federal government following a shutdown. He stated: “The government is back OPEN after Democrats forced their second shutdown of this Congress, and @HouseGOP just stepped in to end it. @SenateDems tried to blame ICE, even though ICE funding was already passed by Congress and signed into law last year. Using ICE as a shutdown” (posted February 3, 2026).

Later that day, Harrigan addressed crime statistics in Washington, D.C., attributing a significant decrease in murders to recent federal action: “Thanks to @POTUS deploying the National Guard last fall, Washington, D.C. saw murders drop by more than 80% in January compared to last year. That made it one of the safest months the city has ever had. Pretty remarkable what happens when public safety is taken seriously.” (posted February 3, 2026).

On February 4, Harrigan questioned congressional gridlock despite apparent bipartisan consensus: “If 71% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans agree, what exactly is stopping this?” (posted February 4, 2026).

Pat Harrigan secured his current term after winning the general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., receiving approximately 57.5% of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2%.
