Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents North Carolina and won his seat in the 2024 general election by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., posted a series of statements on social media regarding recent tragic events affecting the state.

On December 18, 2025, Harrigan addressed an incident at Statesville Regional Airport. He wrote, “Praying for everyone affected by the crash at Statesville Regional Airport and keeping our first responders in my thoughts as they work the scene. My office has been in contact with local authorities and will continue to monitor as we learn more.”

Later that day, Harrigan reflected on the loss of Greg Biffle and his family. In a post dated December 18, 2025, he stated, “North Carolina lost a wonderful family today. Greg Biffle was known to many for racing, but here at home he was known for stepping up when people needed help. After Hurricane Helene, he put his time and resources toward helping communities across Western North Carolina recover”.

By the evening of December 19, 2025, Harrigan commented on another significant loss for North Carolina: “Today has been a heavy one for North Carolina. We’re now mourning the loss of Jim Hunt, a governor whose leadership helped shape this state for decades. A life devoted to public service, and a loss felt across our state tonight. My thoughts are with his family and with everyone”.

These statements come after Harrigan’s electoral victory in November 2024 where he secured approximately 57.5% of the vote against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., reflecting strong support within his district.

Jim Hunt served as governor of North Carolina over four terms and was widely recognized for his contributions to education reform and economic development during his tenure.
