Congressman Pat Harrigan, who represents his district after winning the 2024 general election against Ralph R. Scott, Jr., has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues related to legislative responsibility, immigration enforcement, and national defense.

On September 4, 2025, Harrigan criticized an unnamed Member of Congress for their lack of familiarity with the term “constituent.” He wrote: “A Member of Congress who brags she had to ‘Google’ the word constituent has no business writing laws. Constituents are hardworking American citizens, the people who elect you. Not illegal aliens. Not asylum shoppers. When you say ‘I don’t care if they can’t vote for me,’ you” (September 4, 2025).

Later that day, Harrigan responded to comments from Yassamin regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention policies. He stated: “Yassamin, you say: ‘Many people are in ICE detention because Stephen Miller wants to look tough.’ TRUTH: They’re there because they BROKE THE LAW. You say: ‘The women I met have committed no crimes—seeking asylum is not a crime.’ TRUTH: Your poster child was ARRESTED smuggling” (September 4, 2025).

On September 5, 2025, Harrigan commented on proposals to rename the Department of Defense as the Department of War. He said: “Renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War is more than a name change, it is a declaration. America will no longer sit back and react, we will play offense, sharpen our warfighting edge, and meet every enemy with overwhelming force.” (September 5, 2025).

Harrigan secured his congressional seat by defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., obtaining approximately 57.5% of the vote in the November 2024 election.
