Congressman Pat Harrigan of North Carolina’s 10th District has joined a bipartisan group of House members to launch the Congressional Trucking Caucus, which aims to address key issues facing the U.S. trucking industry. This new caucus is the first of its kind in Congress and will focus on improving road safety, strengthening supply chains, and supporting the trucking workforce.
The caucus will provide a platform for lawmakers to discuss policies affecting truck drivers and companies, including challenges related to driver shortages, infrastructure conditions, and regulatory standards. According to data from the American Trucking Associations, trucks transport more than 70 percent of all freight moved within the United States.
“Truckers are the backbone of our economy, but Washington keeps making their jobs harder,” said Congressman Harrigan. “They’re dealing with unsafe infrastructure, a shrinking workforce, and regulations written by people who have never been behind the wheel. This caucus gives truckers a voice in Congress and focuses on real solutions that improve safety and keep supply chains moving.”
Congressman Harrigan will serve as Co-Chair of the caucus along with Representatives Dave Taylor (OH-02), Shomari Figures (AL-02), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), and Mary Miller (IL-15).
Harrigan was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Ralph R. Scott, Jr., securing 57.5 percent of the vote compared to Scott’s 38.2 percent.
