Congressman Greg Murphy pushes nuclear technology. Stating that as young voters are more concerned about climate change than others, conservatives need to find their “bold vision” for a sustainable future.

As per an article by News Week, China continues to construct two coal plants every week, underscoring the urgent need to address its carbon emissions. In this context, conservatives must champion sustainable domestic solutions. Nuclear technology and especially small modular reactors (SMRs), have come to the fore as crucial instruments for a dependable and low-carbon energy future. “Realizing this potential requires a bold vision, aggressive action, and a recognition that an all-of-the-above approach is essential”, said News Week. Fossil fuels continue to play an indispensable role due to their cost-effectiveness and practicality. Given the global population growth and ongoing fourth industrial revolution, the demand for energy will only increase; hence making nuclear technology an apt choice in speeding up carbon neutrality initiatives and fulfilling burgeoning energy needs.

According to WUNC’s article, NC Congressman Greg Murphy attended the United Nations climate conference (COP27) in Egypt along with other Republicans as part of the Conservative Climate Caucus in 2022. The caucus supports private sector leadership in reducing American carbon emissions and advocates for an “all of the above” approach towards energy inclusive of natural gas and nuclear energy. Murphy emphasized GOP’s sensible strategy for reducing emissions while maintaining a robust economy. Notwithstanding their commitment to climate solutions, all Republican lawmakers including Murphy voted against President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act over concerns regarding Medicare alterations and increased IRS agents.

A report credited private sector innovation, American resources, along with substantial investment in research and development as significant factors contributing towards emission reduction in the US. This initiative aims at teaching House Republicans about climate policies that align with conservative values while organizing delegations for gaining insights on climate-related issues and participating in discussions against radical progressive climate measures.
“The mission involves educating House Republicans on climate policies aligning with conservative values, organizing delegations for climate-related understanding, and participating in discussions against radical progressive climate measures”, said John Curtis in his report about the Conservative Climate Caucus. The initiative also encourages collaborations between Republican members and industry or think tank leaders for informed decisions.
