City of Morganton issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
On December 5, 2022, Brayton Dustin Nowatka of Morganton was charged with N.C.G.S 20-141.4(a2), Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, in the traffic crash that occurred on July 20, 2022.
Nowatka was given a court date of February 20, 2023.
All suspects/offenders are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court or law.
On July 20, 2022, at 2:37 p.m., Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of E Fleming Dr and E Union St for a crash with serious injuries. Investigators and Traffic Reconstruction units responded to the location of the collision to assist with the investigation. The passenger of one vehicle involved, Gloria Hogan, was flown to CMC main for her injuries. Hogan later passed away from injuries due to the crash. This case is still under investigation to determine if any charges will be issued. The Burke County EMS assisted the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
