Local authorities in Burke County have issued a warning about a new phone scam targeting residents. According to reports, individuals are receiving calls from someone pretending to be from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. The caller claims that a family member of an inmate must pay money for classes or pre-trial paperwork.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that they do not contact citizens to request money. “The Burke County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public that we will never call and request money. Any such requests are fraudulent.”

Officials advise anyone who receives these calls not to share any personal or financial information. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious calls directly to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
