The Burke County Board of Adjustment announced on Mar. 30 that it will hold a public meeting at 6:00 PM on April 14, 2026. The meeting is set to take place in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the County Services Building, located at 110 N. Green St., Morganton, North Carolina.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather public comments regarding two specific requests before the board. The first item, VAR 2026-02, involves an application by Thomas Bartholomy for a variance related to the location and placement of a detached garage within the Lake Overlay District at 2064 Laurel Ridge Court. This request seeks an exemption from Section 5.2(a) of the Burke County Zoning Ordinance as well as from front setback standards associated with a private road.

The second matter, SUP 2026-02, concerns an application by Madison Bumgarner for a special use permit to establish special events grounds with limited racetrack operations for motocross riding and events at property located at 2160 Smokey Creek Road. The request specifies that race event operations would be limited to one event per calendar year.

Citizens interested in these matters are encouraged to submit written comments or concerns about either proposal. Written feedback can be sent via email to bradley.kirkley@burkenc.org or mailed to Burke County Community Development c/o Assistant Planning Director, P.O. Box 219, Morganton, NC 28680. All written comments must be received by Friday April 10, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

For additional questions or information about the meeting or agenda items, residents may contact Burke County Community Development by phone at (828) 764-9036.
